EMMA VAN SCHALKWYK
Research Paper
This work looks at how machines look at, break down and reconstruct visual information as a means of "seeing" digitally. Although this does not necessarily give an indication as to what this experience of sight might be like for the machine, it does give the viewer access to a broader mode of vision beyond solely the ways humans see. The projected video in the exhibition space shows how the computer reads the image and deconstructs it into different particles, layers and planes of view. The video shown here on the site is then the computer's reimagining of what 3-dimensional form the tree may take and how this form can be pulled apart and drawn back together based on its particle structures.
